Ambulance staff to receive new medal
AMBULANCE workers who have shown outstanding service are being recognised by the creation of a new medal.
The Queens Ambulance Service Medal will be awarded to those with an exceptional devotion to duty, including taking charge of dangerous incidents.
The first medals will be awarded in the Queens Birthday Honours List next summer.
Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: The Queens Ambulance Medal will celebrate individuals working in the ambulance service for exceptional devotion to duty, outstanding ability and exemplary conduct.
The Scottish Ambulance Service is a vital emergency service in Scotland, so it is right that they should receive the same recognition for outstanding service along with fire and police staff.
The medal will recognise those whose service is marked by outstanding ability, merit and exemplary conduct, such as managing major or dangerous incidents or prolonged service distinguished by exceptional achievement and merit.Ten recommendations will be submitted to the Queen for approval each year from a list sent by ambulance services.
Recipients of the medal will be entitled to have the letters QAM placed after his or her name.
